Elsevier Delegation Visit the School of Environment

On the morning of November 20th, a delegation from Elsevier, including Laura Hassink, President of Global Journals, Li Lin, Managing Director of Greater China, and Sun Yan, Publishing Director and an alumnus of the School of Environment (Master's graduate of 2004), visited the School of Environment, Tsinghua University. The visitors were received by Professor Liu Shuming, Dean of the School of Environment, Professor Xu Ming, Associate Dean, and others, who engaged in friendly talks and exchanges with them. The meeting also included several professors and researchers from the School of Environment, such as Professor Li Jinhui, Professor Liu Huan, Researcher Liu Yanchen, Associate Professor Zhao Ming, Associate Researcher An Xiaoqiang, Associate Professor Zhang Fang, and Associate Researcher Wang Chunyan.

Dean Liu Shuming extended a warm welcome to Laura Hassink and her team. He noted that over 20 faculty members from the School of Environment currently hold positions such as chief editors, editors, and editorial board members for journals published by Elsevier, which indicates a strong collaborative relationship between the two sides. Looking ahead, Dean Liu expressed his aspirations to enhance this collaboration further, with a focus on deepening exchanges through joint academic conferences, student training and internship initiatives, and the co-publishing of research findings.

Laura Hassink expressed her delight during her visit to the School of Environment and provided an overview of Elsevier. She noted that there is room for increasing the representation of Chinese researchers among the editorial teams of Elsevier's academic journals, and she eagerly anticipates more faculty members from the School of Environment joining their ranks. Furthermore, Laura Hassink conveyed her desire to hear suggestions from the School's faculty regarding Elsevier's "open access" policies and other related matters. She emphasized Elsevier's commitment to facilitating more effective international academic cooperation for researchers.

Sun Yan highlighted Tsinghua University's research achievements in the field of environmental science during her presentation. She emphasized the university's significant contributions to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), noting the high proportion of internationally collaborative articles published and the advanced level of international cooperation in its research endeavors.

Professor Xu Ming provided an overview of the School of Environment, particularly highlighting the roles and responsibilities of its faculty members within journals published by Elsevier. He expressed the School's willingness to recommend more talented young faculty to join the ranks of journal editors and editorial board members, thereby infusing new vitality into Elsevier's journal teams and strengthening the collaborative relationship between the two sides.

During the meeting, Professor Li Jinhui delivered a concise presentation on the topic of "Circular Economy and Urban Mining". Following her presentation, Professor An Xiaoqiang and Associate Researcher Wang Chunyan respectively introduced the basic situation of the Center for Water Technology and Ecological Restoration and Division of Environmental System Analysis.

During the free exchange session of the meeting, Professors Liu Huan, Zhao Ming, and Zhang Fang actively contributed their perspectives. They provided constructive suggestions on Elsevier's journal policies from the viewpoints of both journal editors and scientific researchers.

Both sides unanimously acknowledged the solid foundation of cooperation between Elsevier and the School of Environment, Tsinghua University. Representatives expressed that ongoing efforts should be made to deepen and expand the collaboration at the institutional level in the future.
