Through years of exploration and practice, the School of Environment has gradually formed a new type of teaching system with clear structure, rich content, clear objectives and standardized management, including professional experimental practice system and green practice system, as shown in the figure below.

The professional experimental practice system aims to cultivate high-quality, compound top-notch innovative and leading talents in environment and water supply and drainage. It is composed of experimental teaching, practice courses, internship and comprehensive training. In terms of experimental teaching, SOE boasts a national experimental teaching demonstration center: the experimental practice teaching center of environmental science and engineering. It has formed a new experimental system consisting of specialty basic experiments, pollution control technology experiments, and course-competition combined experiments, etc. There are about 90 experimental project resources, covering all directions in the field of environmental pollution prevention and control; The practice course is closely integrated with engineering practice, including project training courses, case courses and course design. It has established a series of design courses including Engineering Design for Water and Wastewater Treatment, Design of Solid Waste Treatment and Disposal Facility, Engineering Design for Air Pollution Control, Urban Water and Wastewater Pipeline Works and Building Water and Wastewater Engineering Design; Internships closely follow the needs of enterprises, including perceptual practice, production practice and internship plan. Students are guided to participate in high-level industry conferences, industry expert lectures, and take internships in enterprises and institutions in the field of environmental and municipal services, so as to cultivate students' industry knowledge, engineering concepts, and problem-solving abilities; Comprehensive training mainly trains students' ability to solve practical problems and inspire their creativity, including Student Research Training (SRT), teaching students according to their aptitude and graduation thesis training.

The green practice system aims to improve students' awareness of green and low-carbon development in an all-round way. It is composed of laboratory exploring classes, extracurricular green science and technology activities, green social practices and student association activities. Laboratory exploring classes show students the scientific research process and broadens students' vision; Extracurricular green science and technology activities include National Environmentally Friendly Science and Technology Competition, Tsinghua University Challenge Cup, etc.; Green social practice mainly cultivates students' awareness of sustainable development through social practice; Student associations include Tsinghua University Student Green Association, RISE Association, etc., and they publicize the concept of sustainable development and carry out green practice and education.
