The Student Green Association of Tsinghua University (SGATU) and Student Union of THU co-hosted the carnival of Earth Hour with 13 other student associations on March 31. More than one thousand students joined in the carnival.

“This carnival might be the most attractive activity this semester, and more student associations are taking part in environmental protection. It has been a common issue,” said Zhou Hui, the president of SGATU. This carnival comprised three parts, including the pre-video, the scene performance and the post-research. SGATU invited many student stars to join the video-making and uploaded it onto the Internet. As a result, it received more than a million of page viewers and become a very popular video show in many famous websites.

Earth Hour is a worldwide event organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and is held on the last Saturday of March annually. Its goal is to encourage households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights for one hour to raise awareness about the need to take action on climate change. This year’s theme in china was, “Everyone has an environmental expert in their heart”.
