Award ceremony of 2011 Leading economic figures / business / cities in China jointly organized by nine media subordinated to Xinhua News Agency was held in the Great Hall on November 19. The theme of the event was “Green Movement”, which means taking green action to establish a model for China’s green development, and promoting comprehensive, coordinated and sustainable development. Prof. Zhang Xiaojian from the School of Environment (SOE) was awarded the title of 2011 Leading Economic Figure.

The nominating committee awarded Prof. Zhang Xiaojian on the grounds that: “He is the first self trained Ph. D. in China in the field of environmental engineering. He has his own insights for some strategic problems in China, including the sustainable development of water resources, protection of water environment and water industry. He actively participates in the protection of China’s water environment and the formation of water industry and technology development strategy. He successfully organized a number of emergency water supply projects for water pollution emergencies and is hailed as the Master of Watercontrol.”
