This award, initiated by the IWA Membrane Technology Specialist Group (MTSG), aims to recognize recent doctoral graduates (within two years of graduation) for their significant contributions to the field of membrane science and technology, inspiring the growth of the next generation of outstanding young talent. Following a thorough review by the IWA MTSG Selection Committee and subsequent approval by the IWA MTSG Management Committee, two recipients were selected worldwide for 2024.
Lin Weichen, who got his undergraduate degree in 2017 and doctoral degree in 2022 from Tsinghua School of Environment, is currently a postdoctoral researcher under the Shuimu Scholar Program at Tsinghua University, with Professor Huang Xia as his co-supervisor. Lin Weichen’s primary research focuses on the mechanisms of membrane fouling and the optimization of membrane elements in high-pressure membrane technologies. As the first author or corresponding author, he has published over ten SCI papers in journals such as Water Research (4 papers), Journal of Membrane Science (4 papers), and Environment International. He has received over ten Best Oral Presentation awards at domestic and international academic conferences. His accolades include the Beijing Membrane Society Outstanding Young Researcher Award, the Zijin Quanxing Environmental Foundation Outstanding Student Award, the Gao Tingyao Outstanding Young Doctoral Student Scholarship, the Ogano (Water Quality and Water Environment) Scholarship, the National Scholarship for doctoral students, the Beijing Excellent Student Award, the Beijing Youth Academic Speech Competition Excellence Award, and the First Prize in the Beijing Ecological and Environmental Youth Academic Speech Competition. Additionally, he has been awarded grants for the National Natural Science Foundation Youth Program and the Special Funding Program for Postdoctoral Research (Pre-Station Phase).
