Recently, the list of Fellows of the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences for 2024 was announced, with Professor Chen Lyvjun and Professor Li Junhua of the School of Environment, Tsinghua University among the inductees. Professor Yu Gang, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, an alumnus and faculty member of SOE, and Director of the Advanced Interdisciplinary Institute of Environment and Ecology at Beijing Normal University, along with Professor Zhang Jian, a doctoral alumnus of the 2000 cohort at SOE and President of Shandong Normal University, were also elected.

As a national first-class society, the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences is the earliest established, largest, and most academically prestigious scientific community in the field of ecology and environmental sciences in China. The society officially established the fellowship system in 2022, with selections made every two years. This system is designed to honor scientists and professionals who have made outstanding contributions in fundamental and applicational research in the field of ecology and environment both domestically and internationally, as well as those with significant inventions and innovations. It is the highest academic honor for members of the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences.
Chen Lyvjun, Professor and Doctoral Supervisor at School of Environment (SOE), Tsinghua University. He currently serves as the Executive Deputy Director of the Center for Ecological Civilization at Tsinghua University, the Deputy Director of the Institute of Circular Economy at Tsinghua University, and the Director of the China Industrial Park Green Development Research Center at SOE. Additionally, he is the Deputy Director of the State Environmental Protection Key Laboratory of Eco-Industry, Co-Secretary General of the Ecological Civilization Education Union for Chinese Universities, Chairman of the Committee of Industrial Park Green and Low-Carbon Development of the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences, Chairman of the Industrial Park Green Development Branch of the China Association of Circular Economy, and a member of the Expert Advisory Committee for Circular Economy under the Inter-Ministerial Joint Meeting System. He previously served as the Deputy Director of the Yangtze Delta Region Institute of Tsinghua University, Zhejiang, the Deputy Director of the Beijing Guohuan Tsinghua Environmental Engineering Design and Research Institute, the Deputy Director of the Administration of Science and Technology at Tsinghua University, and the Deputy Director of the University-Industry Cooperation Committee at Tsinghua University. He is a member of the 10th Committee of the All-China Youth Federation, selected for the National BaiQianWan Talents Program, and has been recognized as a middle-aged expert with outstanding contributions and a national outstanding science and technology research worker. He also enjoys special government allowances from the State Council and has been selected as a leading talent in the field of environmental protection by the national government. He has been awarded the Young Scientist Award by the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences in both its first and third editions.
Chen Lyvjun primarily engages in research on theories and applications related to ecological civilization, industrial ecology and eco-industrial parks, green and low-carbon circular development of industrial parks, and new processes and technologies for water treatment. He has led and completed over a hundred environmental protection projects and undertaken numerous national and local research projects. He has received one Third Prize of the State Technological Invention Award, three First Prizes, seven Second Prizes, and four Third Prizes for Provincial and Ministerial-Level Scientific and Technological Progress Award, along with numerous other awards. He has obtained dozens of national patents and published over 300 academic papers.
For nearly 20 years, Chen Lyvjun has been dedicated to the research and practice of green, low-carbon, and circular ecological development in industrial parks. He has vigorously advanced industrial ecology research, providing methods and case studies for the green and low-carbon development of industrial parks in China. Additionally, he has proposed solutions for achieving carbon peaking and carbon neutrality in industrial parks, tailored to the Chinese context.
Li Junhua, Professor and Doctoral Supervisor at SOE. He has been awarded the Changjiang Distinguished Professorship by the Ministry of Education, received the National Science Fundd for Distinguished Young Scholars, and has been recognized as one of the first leading talents in scientific and technological innovation under the "Ten Thousand Talents Program" of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee. He is the Chief of the Key Industry Air Pollution Control and Innovation Team at Tsinghua University, the Director of the National Engineering Laboratory for Flue Gas Multi-pollutant Control Technology and Equipment, and the Deputy Director of the Desulfurization and Denitrification Committee of the China Association of Environmental Protection Industry. He serves as a Co-Editor-in-Chief for Catalysis Surveys from Asia and is on the editorial boards of several academic journals, including Applied Catalysis B: Environmental, Chinese Journal of Catalysis, Journal of Environmental Sciences, Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering, Environmental Chemistry, Environmental Engineering, and Chinese Journal of Process Engineering. He has authored monographs titled Development and Application of Key Technologies for Selective Catalytic Reduction of NOx from Flue Gas and Principles and Applications of Environmental Catalysis. He has published over 410 SCI papers and has been consistently listed as a "Highly Cited Researchers" by Clarivate and a "Highly Cited Chinese Researchers" by Elsevier. He holds 66 national invention patents, 2 U.S. patents, and has received three gold medals from the International Exhibition of Inventions, including the gold medal at the 47th Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions, the gold medal at the 12th Beijing Association of Inventions, and the excellence award of the China Patent Award.
Focusing on major national needs for pollution reduction, carbon reduction, and resource utilization in key industries, Li Junhua has been dedicated to frontline research and teaching for 30 years. He specializes in the treatment of flue gas from industrial furnaces, the purification and utilization of organic waste gas, and the study of pollution and carbon reduction in coal-fired boiler flue gas. He has made significant breakthroughs in theoretical methods, core materials, and key technologies. Leading his team, he has established demonstration projects and promoted their application in enterprises such as China Guodian, China Baowu Steel Group, China National Building Material Group, and China Petrochemical Corporation. He has developed a multi-pollutant synergistic control technology system, driving significant reductions in atmospheric pollutants in key industries. He has received the National Outstanding Engineer Team Award (as team leader) and the First Prize for State Scientific and Technological Progress (as the first contributor), the Second Prize for State Technological Invention (as the first contributor), and one Special Prize each from the Ministry of Education and the China Association of Environmental Protection Industry (both as the first contributor). Additionally, he has been awarded six provincial, ministerial, or industry first prizes, and the Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Youth Award.
