2022-2023 "Friends of Tsinghua-Hach Scholarship" Award Ceremony

On May 30th, the 2022-2023 "Friends of Tsinghua – Hach Scholarship" Award Ceremony was held in Meeting Room 119 of the Sino-Italian Ecological and Energy Efficient Building (SIEEB). Over 30 attendees participated, including Zheng Bo, Product Strategy and Application Director, Diao Huifang, Deputy Director of Strategic Marketing at Hach, Xi Jingying, School Council Vice Chairman of School of Environment (SOE), Tsinghua University, Ji Qinghua, Head of SOE Graduate Work Group and the scholarship recipients. The ceremony was chaired by Ji Qinghua.

Zheng Bo, on behalf of Hach, congratulated the scholarship recipients in his speech. He gave an overview of Hach and Veralto, stating that Hach, as a globally renowned provider of water quality analysis products and services, has always been committed to the development of environmental protection education. He highlighted Hach’s long-term strategic partnership with SOE in environmental talent cultivation and scientific research. He emphasized that scholarships are one of the most crucial aspects of collaboration on talent cultivation between Hach and SOE. He expressed his delight in seeing the scholarship recipients from previous years grow into outstanding professionals who play active roles in various sectors of the environmental protection industry. He expressed his hope for deeper collaboration with SOE in the fields of ecology, environment, and sustainable development in the future, contributing to environmental education for humanity.

Xi Jingying, on behalf of SOE, reviewed the history of collaboration between Hach and SOE. Since 2002, the School and Hach have engaged in a great deal of fruitful cooperation in areas such as talent cultivation, scientific research, and professional training. Xi sincerely thanked Hach for its long-standing support of SOE’s development. He stated that the School of Environment places values holistic development of students, encouraging them to achieve comprehensive growth through diverse “second classroom” activities including social work, public service, technological innovation, and cultural and sports activities. He also noted, the fact that the “Friends of Tsinghua-Hach Scholarship” include multiple individual awards apart from the Outstanding Award and Comprehensive Award is a reflection of the philosophy celebrating holistic development. Xi finally congratulated the scholarship recipients and expressed the hope that they would cherish this honor, maintain their enthusiasm for environmental studies, and contribute to the building of a beautiful China.

Ji Qinghua read out the list of recipients of the 2022-2023 "Hach Scholarship" and congratulated the awarded students. Altogether, 2 students received the Outstanding Awards, 10 students the Excellence Awards, and 18 students won individual awards for their achievements in areas such as sports, arts, volunteer work, social services, and technological innovation.

Representing the scholarship-winning students, undergraduate student Zhang Junpeng from Malaysia and doctoral student Zhang Chi from the 2022 cohort, delivered remarks. They shared their reflections on their academic and research experiences from the previous academic year and expressed gratitude to Hach. Zhang Junpeng expressed that this honor not only acknowledges his past efforts but also serves as significant motivation for him to continue forging ahead on the environmental study. He vowed to stay true to his original aspirations, keep contributing to the environmental cause, fear no challenges, and bravely strive for new heights. Zhang Chi stated that as an environment student at Tsinghua in the new era, amidst the great currents of addressing climate change and promoting energy and industrial transformation, she will remember the school’s guidance to "love our environment and enhance our careers." With sincerity and professionalism, she aspires to address the environmental challenges China and the world faces with her knowledge and professional capabilities in the future.

The "Hach Scholarship" sponsored by Hach since 2003, aims to encourage and support students at the School of Environment to strive for excellence, innovation, and holistic development. Over the years, hundreds of outstanding undergraduate and graduate students have been awarded this scholarship.
