“AI for Ecology and Environment” Academic Week Seminar: Cutting-edge Generative AI and its Applications in Ecology and Environment

On April 2nd, the second seminar of the “AI for Ecology and Environment” Academic Week was successfully held in Room 209 of the School of Environment (SOE), Tsinghua University as part of the “Four Decades of Environmental Science: Shaping the Future Together” series of academic activities. The event, which focused on cutting-edge generative AI and its applications in ecology environment, was chaired by SOE Dean Liu Shuming. Seminars were given by Professor Xu Ming, SOE Associate Dean, and Associate Researcher Li Nan, Associate Director of the Center of AI for Ecology and Environment. Xu Guodong, Chairman of the Technical Committee of CSD Water Service, and Zhang Yifei, Chairman of the Board of CSD, were invited to attend the event.

Xu Ming, with his presentation entitled "Exploring the Applications of Generative AI in the Environmental Field," provided an accessible and thorough introduction to the evolution of AI and the methods for applying AI to environmental practices. He gave a detailed introduction to the team's development of "TianGong AI," the world's first large language model application focused on ecology, environment, and sustainable development.

Li Nan approached the topic from a technical perspective, explaining the principles and application scenarios of AI. He discussed the challenges AI faces in China, the core value of AI, and the development progress of "TianGong AI."

In his conclusion remarks, Liu Shuming emphasized that AI is not only a fundamental skill but should also become a new paradigm for scientific research. He also invited attendees to follow the upcoming series of events.
