7th Qian Yi Environmental Award Winners' Academic Achievements Report and Award Ceremony held in Beijing

On the morning of December 23, the 7th Qian Yi Environmental Award winners' academic achievements report and award ceremony were held at the School of Environment, Tsinghua University. Distinguished guests in attendance included Professor Qian Yi, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and Professor at the School of Environment, Tsinghua University; Professor Wang Hao, Academician of CAE and Honorary Director of the China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research; Professor Peng Yongzhen, Academician of CAE and Professor at the Faculty of Environment and Life, Beijing University of Technology; Professor Hou Li'an, Academician of CAE and Professor at the Rocket Force University of Engineering; Professor Shen Zhenyao, Dean of the School of Environment, Beijing Normal University; Professor Sun Dezhi from the College of Environmental Science and Engineering, Beijing Forestry University; Professor Yang Min from Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences; Professor Wen Donghui from College of Environmental Science and Engineering, Peking University; Professor Meng Fangang from School of Environmental Science and Engineering, Sun Yat-sen University; Professor Wang Can, Party secretary at the School of Environment in Tsinghua University; Professor Huang Xia, Professor Wang Chengwen, Professor Wen Xianghua as the Chairman of the Qian Yi Environmental Award Review Committee, Professor Wang Jianlong as the Vice Chairman of the Review Committee, and other members of the review committee.

Professor Wang Can delivers a speech

Professor Wang Can firstly congratulated the winners of this award and expressed gratitude to the review committee. He stated that since its establishment, the Qian Yi Environmental Award has played a significant role in motivating young people to devote themselves to environmental protection, carry on Professor Qian Yi's passion for environmental conservation, concern for environmental education, rigorous academic pursuit, pursuit of the truth in work, and noble sentiments. Professor Wang Can hope that more young people with a sense of responsibility and commitment will contribute their wisdom and strength to the career of environmental protection.

Professor Wen Xianghua introduces the application and review process of the Qian Yi Environmental Award

Professor Wen Xianghua, Chairman of the Qian Yi Environmental Award Review Committee, introduced the award's review process and the basic information of the application and review process for this year. The review committee received a total of 197 valid application materials. After three rigorous rounds of review, i.e., preliminary evaluation, written review, and meeting review, the winners were determined, including 5 first prizes, 15 second prizes, 2 individual awards for high school students, and 2 group awards. According to the selection rules of the Qian Yi Environmental Award, there was no recipient of the grand prize this year.

Academician Qian Yi, as the chair of the defense review committee, presided over the defense session. The first-prize winners included: Li Jin, a Ph.D. student in 2019 grade at Tsinghua University, Wang Yongyi, a master's student in 2021 grade at Sun Yat-sen University, Wang Kunpeng, a Ph.D. student in 2019 grade at Tsinghua University, Wang Yutong, a Ph.D. student in 2018 grade at Nanjing University, and Sun Dan, a Ph.D. student in 2020 grade at Sun Yat-sen University. They presented their research on the following topics, "Sustainable Transformation Modeling for the 'Dual Carbon' Goals: Research and Practice", "Development and Mechanism Study of Advanced Water Disinfection Process Based on Novel Ultraviolet Technology", "Development and Performance Regulation Mechanism Study of High Permeability Selective Nanofiltration Membranes", "Fine Characterization, Anthropogenic Influence, and Ecological Effects of Ozone Pollution in China", and "Molecular Mechanism and Application of Arsenic Hyperaccumulation in Hyperaccumulators", respectively.

Wang Yanshan, a Ph.D. student in 2019 grade at the School of Environmental Science and Engineering, Tianjin University, and Qiao Minhui from Wuxi No.1 Girls Secondary School, delivered their award acceptance speeches on behalf of students from colleges and middle schools, respectively. At the award ceremony, a video from the team at Wuhan Qingchuan Junior High School, winner of the Middle School Student Team Award, was also played. In the video, the team shared their engagement in environmental technology and the relevant experiences and insights.

At the conclusion, Academician Qian Yi delivered a speech. She emphasized that successfully advancing the environmental career, achieving sustainable development, and realizing the "dual carbon" targets require the collective efforts of everyone. She congratulated all winners of the award, as well as their instructors and team members, and expressed her gratitude to the reviewers of the review committee, the staff, and the partners. Academician Qian Yi hoped that the Qian Yi Environmental Award can inspire more young students to devote themselves to environmental protection.

The academic achievements report and award ceremony were guided by the School of Environment, Tsinghua University and the Tsinghua University Education Foundation. The Qian Yi Environmental Award Review Committee was responsible for hosting the award ceremony, and the Qian Yi Environmental Fund Management Committee took charge of the overall organization. The event also received joint support from Jiangxi JDL Environmental Protection Co., Ltd., Puriteck (Nanjing) Co., Ltd., Sound Group Co., Ltd., and GEM Co., Ltd.
