From December 11 to 14, the inaugural "Environmental Health" Academic Week at the School of Environment (SOE), Tsinghua University, was successfully held. The event invited six experts, including Academician Zhu Tong from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a professor at Peking University, to deliver academic lectures for the faculty and students. Professor Liu Shuming, Dean of the School of Environment, Tsinghua University, attended the opening lecture and delivered a speech. Associate Professor Lu Yun, Director of SOE Division of Environmental Biology, Professor Huang Jun from SOE Division of Environmental Chemistry, and Associate Researcher Wang Bin presided over the relevant academic lectures and organized discussion sessions.

During the Academic Week, six experts engaged in discussions and shared the latest advancements in their respective fields within the cutting-edge and hot topic area of environmental health. Academician Zhu Tong gave his speech on "Health-Driven Synergistic Control of Air Pollution and Climate Change". He systematically presented the research history and development of the health effects of air pollution, and provided insights into the future impacts of climate change on health. Professor Huang Wei from the University of Oxford gave his presentation on "Development of OxLAMP to diagnose SARS-CoV-2". He introduced his team's development of a new rapid COVID-19 testing technology within three weeks after the lockdown of Wuhan, and its successful promotion in various countries and cities. Associate Professor Ye Jing from Shanghai Institute of Technology shared her research progress in the field of ecotoxicology of emerging pollutants in aquatic plants. Researcher Xu Jian, Deputy Director of the Environmental Health Risk Assessment and Research Center at the Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences, introduced the current status and future plans of environmental health work in China. Researcher Zhang Yu from the Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences, presented the latest research findings on the identification and control of high-risk antibiotic resistance genes and their hosts in the environment. Professor Duan Xiaoli, Associate Dean of the School of Energy and Environmental Engineering at the University of Science and Technology Beijing, introduced the application of exposure parameters in environmental health risk assessment.

The academic week featured six consecutive focused lectures. It presented over 200 faculty and students from the School of Environment with a feast of academic insights on environmental health. Teachers and students who participated in the academic week unanimously agreed that environmental health is an important direction for the future development of environmental science. However, there are still significant gaps in current research, necessitating interdisciplinary research efforts. The lectures broadened the academic horizons of the faculty and students and have had a positive impact on the development of the school's disciplines, as well as on academic exchange and cooperation.
