Tsinghua's Atmospheric Pollutants and Greenhouse Gases Synergistic Control Team, received the National Engineering Award, the nation's highest honor in the field of engineering in a ceremony held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on January 19.
The "Team for Synergetic Control of Atmospheric Pollutants and Greenhouse Gases" is recommended by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment. Professor Li Junhua from the School of Environment serves as the team leader. The core members include Hao Jiming, He Kebing, Yao Qun, Ye Hengdi, Huang Wei, Chen Guifu, Zhang Zhigang, Wei Jinchao, Lu Guangjie, Ma Yongliang, Xu Jiayu, Zhao Xiaoguang, Wu Qirong, Chen Jianjun, and Peng Yue.
The Team has been dedicated to the synergetic control research of atmospheric pollutants and greenhouse gases and has achieved significant breakthroughs in the field of deep treatment and resource recovery of multi-pollutants in industrial flue gas and waste gas. The team has invented a series of environmental catalytic materials for the deep purification of atmospheric pollutants, as well as synergetic control technologies for multi-pollutants in flue gas. These have formed a complete technological innovation chain for multi-pollutants in flue gas— "control theory - core materials - key equipment - engineering demonstration". The team's technologies have been successfully promoted and applied in companies such as China Guodian Corporation, China Baowu Steel Group, China National Building Material Group, and Sinopec Corp., where deep treatment demonstration projects have been established. The team's achievements have been honored with six national awards, including the first and second prizes of the State Science and Technology Progress Award and the second prize of the State Technological Invention Award. Additionally, they have been granted over 110 invention patents and have participated in the formulation and revision of 35 standards. Furthermore, the team has supported the establishment of the National Engineering Research Center for Synergetic Control of Air Pollutants and Greenhouse Gases, which aims to promote the advancement of industrial flue gas deep treatment technology and industry development, and has made outstanding contributions to China's battle to defend the blue sky. The team have been continuously developing technologies for synergistically reduction of pollution and carbon emission, and striving to overcome challenges in achieving China's carbon neutrality goals.
In recognition of role models in the field of engineering technology, the CPC Central Committee and the State Council have decided to initiate the selection and commendation for the "National Engineer Award". During this event, a total of 81 individuals were honored with the title of "National Outstanding Engineer", and 50 teams were awarded the title of "National Outstanding Engineer Team". These recognized engineers and teams represent the new era's engineering corps. They always keep in mind their original aspirations and missions, with a deep concern for the major issues of the nation. In the fields of major engineering construction, major equipment manufacturing, key core technology breakthroughs, and significant inventions and creations, they adhere to patriotic struggle and are brave in innovation and creation, and have achieved a series of advanced engineering and technical achievements. These achievements have not only enhanced the country's independent innovation capabilities but also better met the growing needs of the people for a better life. These individuals and teams vividly demonstrate the noble pursuit and valuable character traits of the engineering community, including loyalty to the Party and the country, willingness to serve the people, dedication to their work, professional rigor, pursuit for excellence, readiness for cooperation, and self-reliance.
