Successful Bilateral Meeting on Environment and Sustainable Development Between Tsinghua University's School of Environment and Tyumen State University

On the afternoon of May 29th, Tsinghua University's School of Environment and Tyumen State University (TMU) held a bilateral meeting on environment and sustainable development in a combination of online and offline methods. The meeting was jointly organized by the School of Environment of Tsinghua University and the Laboratory of Sedimentology and Paleo-evolution of Tyumen State University, with the aim of exploring opportunities for cooperation between the two sides in the field of environment and sustainable development. Tsinghua University Vice President Wang Hongwei, Dean of the School of Environment Liu Yi, Tyumen State University Vice Presidents Tolstikov Andrei and Sechenova Ekaterina, Head of the Laboratory of Sedimentology and Palaeontological Evolution Kuzyakov Yakov, and relevant researchers from both sides attended the meeting. The meeting was chaired by Prof Xu Ming, Director of theDivisionof Environmental Biology, School of Environment, Tsinghua University.

In his speech, Wang Hongwei congratulated the successful organization of the talks. He emphasized the global significance of sustainable development and its increasing prominence in international relations. Wang highlighted Tsinghua University's proactive measures talent training and scientific research in response to the global green development needs. He pointed out the shared challenges and opportunities in environmental protection and sustainable development between China and Russia. Sechenova emphasized the commitment to fortifying the amicable and cooperative relationship between the two universities, with the aim of establishing an enhanced exchange platform for Chinese and Russian scientists. The overarching goal is to contribute to the advancement of environmental and sustainable development efforts in both China and Russia.

Liu Yi delivered a welcoming address, expressing his delight at witnessing the commencement of a long-term collaborative journey between Tsinghua University and Tyumen State University. He highlighted the focused efforts of Tsinghua University's School of Environment in addressing China's environmental challenges and promoting the advancement of China's ecological civilization and sustainable development. Similarly, Tyumen National University is dedicated to establishing a new paradigm of higher education, serving human development, society, and environmental enhancement through science and education. Drawing on a shared interest in sustainable development and carbon emission reduction, the two institutions have forged a robust cooperative relationship. The primary objective of this bilateral meeting on environment and sustainable development is to facilitate the exchange and discussion of key issues of mutual concern in the respective fields. BELYANOVSKAYA Alexandra, the Coordinator of International Cooperation at Tyumen State University, outlined the research priorities and international collaborations of Tyumen State University. During the event, participating experts presented the latest research findings on advanced wastewater treatment, water environmental protection technologies, management of emerging pollutants, multi-system impact assessment of climate policies, resourceful utilization of solid waste, and sustainable energy production. They expressed a shared interest in strengthening exchanges and collaborations in these related fields. This meeting served as a platform for Tsinghua University and Tyumen State University to deepen their cooperation and exchange, establishing a robust foundation for future collaboration in the realm of environment and sustainable development.
