On the afternoon of May 8th, the HACH Scholarship’s 20th anniversary, together with the Scholarship Award Ceremony for the 2021-2022 academic year was held at the Lecture Hall of the School of Environment, Tsinghua University. Distinguished guests, including Shi Zongkai, Deputy Director of the Tsinghua University Council, Liu Yi, Dean of the School of Environment, Hu Hongying, Director of the Academic Committee, Yue Dongbei, Associate Dean of the School of Environment, Qin Xiaopei, President of Danaher Water Quality Platform Greater China, and General Manager of HACH, Fang Xin, CFO of Danaher Water Quality Platform Greater China, Wu Rui, Senior Director of Commercial and Strategic Marketing of HACH, Zheng Bo, Director of Application Development of HACH, and Diao Huifang, Deputy Director of Strategic Marketing of HACH, attended the event. Additionally, award recipients from the 2021-2022 academic year and representatives of former awardees, totaling nearly 100 people, participated in this commemorative gathering. The event was presided over by Xi Jinying, Vice Chairman of the SOE School Council.
Speech by Shi Zongkai
Shi Zongkai conveyed his heartfelt appreciation to HACH for their two decades of support in fostering talent at Tsinghua. He underscored the significance of international talent development and expressed his hope that the School of Environment and HACH would deepen their collaborative efforts. Through the shared utilization of resources and complementary strengths, the aim is to consistently ignite students' creative capabilities and embark on innovative explorations, thereby breaking new ground in the realm of international talent cultivation. Also, Shi Zongkai extended warm congratulations to the award-winning students, urging them to cultivate the ability to assimilate various civilizations and cultures. He encouraged them to thrive in a multicultural environment while fostering cultural confidence as the foundation for their adaptability.
Speech by Liu Yi
In his address, Liu Yi highlighted the extensive and fruitful collaboration between the School of Environment and HACH since 2002. This collaboration has spanned scholarships, student science and technology initiatives, academic activities, and the enhancement of students' international competence. Liu Yi expressed sincere gratitude to HACH for its robust support in fostering talent, development, and infrastructure within the School. Recognizing China's steadfast commitment to building an ecological civilization and embracing sustainable development as a cornerstone of the new era of Chinese path to modernization, Liu Yi encouraged students to engage in imaginative and creative endeavors. He urged them to proactively address the developmental trends of both the nation and global society, fostering the capability to navigate complex challenges. Furthermore, Liu Yi emphasized the importance of continuously enhancing the environmental quality of people's lives, aspiring for transformative contributions to both China and the world.
Speech by Qin Xiaopei
Qin Xiaopei extended heartfelt congratulations to the award-winning students and took the opportunity to provide an overview of HACH company's profile and its development direction. In his address, he reflected upon the extensive history of collaboration between the two entities. Over the past two decades, both parties have adhered to the principle of "combine and complement for a win-win future". This collaborative philosophy has borne fruit in various areas such as laboratory construction, talent training, and social services, fostering not only the mutual advancement but also creating a positive environment with far-reaching societal effects. Looking forward, Qin Xiaopei expressed enthusiasm for embarking on a new decade of high-level, specialized industry-university-research cooperation. He emphasized HACH's commitment to practicing the development concept of "in China, for China". To this end, HACH aims to further strengthen its collaboration with the School of Environment at Tsinghua University. The focus will be on developing testing technology that aligns seamlessly with China's unique environmental protection needs.
Awarding of prizes to winning students
Yue Dongbei announced the recipients of the HACH Scholarship for the academic year 2021-2022 and extended heartfelt congratulations to all the deserving awardees. Following a thorough evaluation, three students were honored with the Outstanding Award, while ten students were recognized with the Excellent Award. Additionally, 41 students distinguished themselves in various categories, including sports, arts and culture, volunteering, social work, and scientific and technological innovation, earning individual awards.

Representatives of the award-winning students delivered impactful speeches, sharing their personal growth experiences, and expressing heartfelt gratitude to HACH. undergraduate Wang Yixuan conveyed that this honor not only serves as a recognition of her individual efforts but also serves as inspiration for future academic pursuits and a courageous life. She pledged to carry this motivation forward, using it as a driving force to achieve new heights in her endeavors. Doctoral student Zheng Kaixuan, embodying the ethos of a Tsinghua environmentalist in the new era, affirmed his commitment to upholding the alma mater's philosophy: "set a big ambition, join the mainstream, get on the big stage, and do great things". He emphasized the importance of remembering the School's mandate to have "Passion for Our Environment, Ambition for Our Cause”. Zheng Kaixuan encouraged fellow Tsinghua students to be pioneers, daring to undertake tasks that others may shy away from. By doing so, he envisioned a more beautiful world brought about by the impactful contributions of Tsinghua SOE people.
Agreement signed by both parties
Celebrating the 20th anniversary of their fruitful collaboration, School of the Environment, Tsinghua University and HACH have jointly decided to elevate their strategic partnership to new heights. Building upon their existing cooperation, both entities are committed to further supporting initiatives such as the " HACH Scholarship", the National Environmental Doctoral Conference, and the "campus environmental monitoring" program in the realm of talent training. In addition to these endeavors, the two sides will collaborate on cutting-edge projects, including the "trans-media environmental simulation and regulation of large scientific device operation" and "water quality fingerprint pollution traceability." This forward-looking collaboration aims to advance the promotion of innovative monitoring technologies, contributing to the cultivation of sustainable development talents and fostering joint advancements in scientific research.
