The Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences (CSES) held the outcome validation meeting for the project of the Key Industries Development Environmental Assessment for Five Main Regions (KIDEAFR) on April 5.

KIDEAFR is the world’s first large-scale regional key industries environmental evaluation project. Chen Jining, Leader of KIDEAFR, President of THU and Professor of SOE, introduced the main research results and achievements in the opening report. After a careful deliberation, the committee of experts including 11 academicians validated the results of KIDEAFR.

The Ministry of Environmental Protection directly supported KIDEAFR which evaluated five main economic regions, including Bohai Economic Cycle, Straits Economic Zone, Beibu Gulf Economic Zone, Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Zone and the Upper and Middle Yellow River Energy Chemical Industry Zone. These five main regions comprise 15 provinces cover an area of 1.11 million km2 and account for 1/5 of the total economy. It involves more than 10 key industries, e.g. petrochemical industry, energy, metallurgy and equipment manufacturing. KIDEAFR was launched two years ago.
