On October 10, the Coca-Cola 2012 London Olympic Games torchbearer selection was held in the Environmental Development Center of Ministry of Environmental Protection. This activity also aimed at spreading environmental protection with a slogan “Keep a bucket of water”. Zhou Hui, president of Student Green Association of Tsinghua University, a senior student of SOE, won the chance to join in the torch relay in the London Olympic Games. She was the first torchbearer that was selected in China mainland.

Meantime, the team “Clean Water Beijing” with 10 students from Student Green Association was granted one of the five national “Best project” by designing and implementing a water conservation project for combining the idea of water conservation and the idea of energy saving. This project presented a modified drip irrigation system which collected rainwater as an irrigation water source and made use of solar energy to drive supercharge pumps watering the plants in the yard.

The “Keep a bucket of water” program was launched in 2005 and jointly sponsored by the Beijing Municipal Commission of Education, Beijing Environmental Protection Foundation, Beijing Municipal Water Conservation Office and Coca-Cola Inc. in the Greater China Region. This program has attracted more than 1.3 million people in 24 major cities in China to join in water conservation and water resources protection. In 2011, this program paid close attention to water resources and water conservation technology application in the community and about one hundred school teams nationwide took part in it.
