The Opening ceremony of 2011 Seminar of Tsinghua – Veolia “Environmental and Urban Management Advanced Project” (EUMAP) was held in SIEEB on November 12. Academician Qian Yi, Dean of School of Environment (SOE) Yu Gang, Director of Overseas Projects Office of Scientific Research & Development of Tsinghua University Ma Jun, and CEO of Veolia Environmental Service Asian Region Luc Zeller attended the ceremony and each presented a speech. 12 student members from the municipal environmental protection department of 9 provinces such as Beijing, Liaoning, Guangdong and Shanxi took part in the ceremony. Secretary of SOE Committee of the CPC Du Pengfei presided over the ceremony.

 2011 EUMAP will last for 9 days. During the project, courses and visits from Nov, 12 to 13 will be held in SOE and from 14 to 20 held in Paris. Courses in SOE include some hot topics such as urban ecological civilization, environmental safety, urban sewage and waste disposal, emission reduction in the “12th five year plan”, low carbon economy and protection strategy of China’s major environmental areas. Courses will be given by Academician Qian Yi, Professor Chen Jining, Professor Yu Gang from Tsinghua University, Inspector Zhang Yue from the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development (MOHURD), Vice-deputy Liu Bingjiang and Professor Zhang Kunming from the Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP). Courses in France include environmental research, water management, waste disposal and other topics. Participants will also mainly visit advanced wastewater treatment plants and waste treatment plants in France.
