1. Overview of the Program
Aiming to develop technical and sustainable solutions that minimize the impact of human activities on the environment, the English Doctoral Program in Environmental Science, Engineering, and Management covers areas including environmental engineering, science, management, and planning. This program is designed to provide students with a solid theoretical foundation, systematic professional knowledge, and skills in the fields of environmental engineering and management. It also prepares students to address the forefront of these fields by combining coursework with research components. A distinguishing feature of this program is its high flexibility, allowing students to either intensify or broaden their abilities.
2. Required Qualification of Applicants
(1) Applicants must be non - Chinese citizens with a valid passport.
(2) Applicants for the doctoral program should hold a Master's degree or an equivalent degree in China. Relevant fields of study include Environmental Science and Engineering, Environmental Economics and Management, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or other related fields. In principle, degree diplomas awarded by overseas universities should be authenticated by the Chinese Service Center for Scholarly Exchange (Ministry of Education, P.R. China). Applicants must hold a Bachelor's degree obtained through a formal four-year program with at least 100 credits or 30 courses. The Master's degree should be from a formal program with at least 18 credits or six courses. The overall average for required courses must be ≧70%, and no more than five courses should have scores lower than 60%.
(3) Applicants must be in good health, of good character, and meet the physical examination requirements stipulated by Tsinghua University and the country of application. They must also be willing to abide by China's laws and regulations, as well as Tsinghua's rules.
(4) Language skills requirements:
For non-native English speakers, one of the following conditions must be met:
a. The major courses during the undergraduate period were taught in English, which should be clearly stated in the applicant's transcripts.
b. Provide a TOEFL score (minimum 90 overall, 23 for writing) or IELTS score (minimum 6.5 overall, 6.0 for writing), or an equivalent score.
Note: Applicants are responsible for ensuring they meet the application qualifications and requirements before applying. Any consequences resulting from failure to meet these qualifications will be borne by the applicant.
3. How to Apply
Applicants must complete an online application via the THU Graduate Programs Application System for International Students within the designated application period. They should fill in the necessary information, upload application documents, and pay the application fee online when submitting their application.

☆ The winter break at Tsinghua University will be from Jan 16, 2025, to Feb 12, 2025. Although the application system will remain available during the break, online verification may be delayed due to the vacation period. 4. Scholarship
(1) Chinese Government Scholarship (CGS):
The full CGS typically covers tuition, a stipend, on-campus accommodation (or a subsidy), and medical insurance. The partial CGS covers some of these items. An annual review is required for all CGS holders. Applicants planning to apply for CGS should submit their application in the Tsinghua admission system before 17:00 PM on Dec 15, 2024.
(2) Tuition Scholarship:
For example, the Beijing Government Scholarship for International Students covers full or partial tuition for one academic year. Applicants may apply for these scholarships annually.

(3) School of Environment Top-up Scholarship:
This scholarship supports students not granted a full scholarship and those in financial need. It covers accommodation costs based on the applicant's study and research potential. The amount is RMB 2,200/month. Students with full scholarships from other sources are not eligible.
5. Campus Life
The School of Environment (SOE) is a friendly and welcoming community where students can get involved in a variety of clubs and activities. Students may choose from more than 100 university student associations and activities, such as sports competitions, community service, social and environmental awareness events, New Year's parties, tourist visits to Chinese cultural and historical destinations, concerts, etc.
SOE also hosts a variety of academic events that are open to students nationwide, such as the National Doctoral Candidates Conference and the Tsinghua Environmentally Friendly Science & Technology Competition. Students are encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities so that they can achieve well-rounded development.
In 2016, the School of Environment launched the International Student Ambassador Program. Ambassadors are assigned a group of incoming students to whom they provide guidance on a range of matters related to studying and living in China.
