Yuan Guangyu started working at the Department of Chemical Engineering, Tsinghua University in 1979. He was transferred to the Division of Nuclear Environment Engineering in 1982, engaging in research, teaching and textbook compilation. His research interests included radioactive effluent and waste disposal, household garbage and waste treatment and disposal, environmental radiation protection, and environmental protection and tracer technology.He retired as a professor in 2000.
