“CHINESE DIASPORA IN THE US: THE POLITICAL ECONOMY OF ETHNIC BUSINESS”

    Chinese immigrant in the US is one of the major academic focuses of Chinese diaspora. Amongst other cities, a large number of Chinese immigrants can be found in New York City, Boston, Philadelphia, Washington DC, and other major metropolitan centres in the East Coast. This paper is going to examine Chinese diasporic capital in connection with the economy in the East Coast by using the case of the Chinese intercity bus to illustrate the opportunities, market formation and the political economy with the mainstream American business counterparts.
 
    Professor Long Denggao is Visiting Professor at Cambridge University. He is Director of the Centre for Chinese Entrepreneur Studies, Tsinghua University; and Vice Dean of the Institute of Economics in Tsinghua School of Humanities and Social Sciences. He is also Consultant on affairs of overseas Chinese, State Council, and China. Professor Long’s research focuses on Chinese business, Chinese diasporic culture and economic history. He published seven books and many Chinese and English papers.
