Tsinghua President Gu Binglin was awarded an honorary doctorate by Waseda University at a special ceremony in Japan on March 25.

During the ceremony at the Tokyo campus, President Gu delivered a speech titled “To Promote Understanding, Strengthen Cooperation, and Work Together for Future Development.”

Waseda University President Katsuhiko Shirai said that the presentation of the degree to President Gu reflects the long-term cooperation between Tsinghua and Waseda universities. Former Tsinghua President Wang Dazhong received an honorary degree from Waseda University in 2002.

Waseda University annually awards an honorary doctorate to a world-famous scholar at the graduation ceremony.

While in Japan, President Gu also visited Kyoto University and Osaka University.
