Tsinghua University's 2005 Spring Graduate Commencement Ceremony was held in the Gymnasium on the morning of January 20. More than 1400 graduate students received their degrees. Among them, 230 were awarded doctorates and 1231 master's degrees. President of Tsinghua and Chairman of the Degree Conferral Committee Gu Binglin, as well as other main leaders of the university attended the ceremony and awarded certificates to the students.

President Gu delivered a speech on the ceremony. On behalf of the university, he extended the warmest congratulations to the seated graduates. He commended the students for their hard working and contribution to the construction of the academic atmosphere in Tsinghua University. President Gu emphasized the importance of lifelong learning and the cultivation of personality. “To keep optimistic and confident is very important for you in your future,” said Gu. He encouraged the students to practice the idea of lifelong learning and contribute to the development of the society and human progress.

Tsinghua has awarded more than 4, 500 students doctor's degrees and more than 26,000 master's degrees since the 1980s.
