Christmas Party for foreign experts at Tsinghua was held in the Foreign Students' Building on December 23. More than one hundred overseas experts and their families as well as people in charge of foreign affairs from different departments or schools gathered to celebrate the Christmas.
Tsinghua Vice President Gong Ke attended the party and delivered a congratulatory speech. On behalf of the University, he expressed thanks to the seated foreign experts for the contribution they have made in teaching and research. “You are part of Tsinghua,” said the Vice President. He also introduced the progress Tsinghua made in 2004 and emphasized the importance of international cooperation in an increasingly globalized world.
How do the foreign experts like the lives in Tsinghua? It seems that to most of them, the lives in Tsinghua are pretty enjoyable. Professor Andy Godfrey, an Oxford alumnus and now a professor in Department of Materials Science and Engineering, has spent four years in Tsinghua. “Yes life in a different country is challenging, but I enjoy living here,” said the professor. “It's good to do research here,” he added, referring to the intelligent students and their hard work and also the research circumstances here.
In 2004, Tsinghua successfully invited more than six hundred foreign experts from countries including the United States, Canada, Britain, Japan, and so on. They are playing a significant role in teaching and research at Tsinghua.
