World-renowned scientists Fang Shu-Cherng, Fellow of the Institute of Industrial Engineers , Walter Clark Professor of North Carolina State University, and director of Graduate Programs in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research, and Prof. Way Kuo, Member of US National Academy of Engineering and dean of Engineering of University of Tennessee, were named Chair Professors of Tsinghua on December 17.

“We will try our best to promote not only the operations research and Industrial Engineering of Tsinghua but also that of China onto the world stage,” said Prof. Fang at the ceremony in honor of the award, held in the Reporting Hall of School of Sciences. Tsinghua Vice President Wang Jinsong attended the ceremony and awarded the letters of appointment to Prof. Fang Shu-Cherng and Prof. Way Guo.

Composed of Prof. Fang, Prof. Guo, and other four famous professors, the newly-formed Chair Professor Group will cooperate with Department of Mathematical Sciences and Department of Industrial Engineering in research, education, and application of operations research and logistics.

Prof. Way Guo gave a lecture titled “ Design for Optimal Reliability” before the ceremony.
