Former President of South Korea Kim Dae-jung visited Tsinghua University and made a speech titled “Peace on the Korean Peninsula and Sino-Korea Cooperation” in the Reception Hall of the Main Building on July 2. Tsinghua President Gu Binglin hosted the speech.

Mr. Kim Dae-jung talked about North Korea and South Korea relations, Sino-Korea cooperation, and globalization. He reviewed the effects of his Sunshine Policy, and commended Chinese government and people for the vigorous efforts they have made for and their great contribution to the peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula. He paid high tribute to the Six Countries conference hosted by China.

Mr. Kim Dae-jung reviewed the friendship between Korea and China and attached great importance to the cooperation between the two countries.

He said China would soon rank among the great economic powers in the world and he hoped that young people could shoulder their responsibilities.

After the speech, Mr. Kim Dae-jung answered questions raised by the seated students.

President Gu Binglin met and had a friendly talk with Mr. Kim Dae-jung before the speech. After the meeting, Mr. Kim inscribed in Chinese “Seek Truth from Facts” for Tsinghua University.
