Nanotechnology Forum Welcomes Scientists from China and Japan

(Tsinghua News Center) The two-day Tsinghua University-Nikkei BP Nanotechnology Forum was held in the Main Building of Tsinghua University on April 15-16. About 400 researchers, faculty and students from both countries attended the event, which focused on the current issues and pioneering research in Nanotechnology.

President Gu Binglin and Yukoh Kawamura, the President & CEO of Nikkei Business Publications, Inc (Nikkei BP) attended the forum and spoke at the opening ceremony.

Hideki Shirakawa, the 2000 Nobel laureate for Chemistry and Professor Emeritus of the University of Tsukuba, gave a speech on “Trends of Future Scientific Research.” According to Professor Shirakawa, it is not enough to limit research of Nanotechnology to any single field, “because research and development related to nanotechnology covers several interdisciplinary domains.”

“It is necessary to promote communication and cooperation among different disciplines and different researchers, as well as to establish the networks among researchers and R&D institutes,” he said.

Xie Sishen, an academician from Chinese Academy of Science, introduced the strategies and policies for the country’s Nanotechnology development. Other lectures were given by Professor Duan Wenhui of Tsinghua and Kurokawa Takashi, the chief editor of Nikkei BP.
