Tsinghua University Students Win EDAthon2023 Championship

On August 25th, the EDAthon2023 Contest was held at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. The competition, organized by the IEEE Council on Electronic Design Automation (CEDA), saw students from Tsinghua University emerge as champions. The team, composed of Cheng Jiawen and Huang Jiechen, Ph.D. students from the Department of Computer Science and Technology, won the championship with the highest overall score. The team was instructed by Professor Yu Wenjian of the Department of Computer Science and Technology.

The EDAthon competition is open to full-time graduate students in computer and integrated circuit related fields. Teams of two are required to solve five EDA-related problems within six hours. The competition involves chip physical design, circuit analysis, system design and analysis, logic and high-level design, and the application of emerging technologies on EDA. Participating teams apply their knowledge of EDA, computer architecture, and machine learning to solve problems.

The competition is hosted by Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and sponsored by IEEE CEDA Hong Kong Chapter, Cadence, HiSilicon, and Empyrean. The competition aims to cultivate teamwork, problem-solving, and EDA application programming ability among participating teams. It also seeks to cultivate the best students and professionals in the EDA field. A total of 25 teams from mainland China, Hong Kong, and other countries and regions participated in this year’s competition.
