Tsinghua University 2018 Undergraduate Students Opening Ceremony

On the morning of August 23, the Tsinghua University 2018 Undergraduate Students Opening Ceremony took place at the Tsinghua Gymnasium. More than 3,800 Chinese and international students attended this ceremony, which formally marks the beginning of their academic lives at Tsinghua.

During the ceremony, Qiu Yong, the President of Tsinghua University, delivered the keynote speech entitled “Dedicate Your Entire Life to Pursue the Spirit of Science”, encouraging the students to devote themselves to pursuing the spirit of science throughout their entire lives.

“The 21st century is an era full of dreams and innovation. The spirit of science is the essence of science and the basis of innovation. I hope that you will bravely defend the truth, always maintain a rational and critical attitude, seek human welfare as the loftiest goal, and dedicate your whole life to pursue the spirit of science”, said President Qiu.

Professor Xiao Xing, from the School of Economics and Management, spoke on behalf of all the teachers; Zhu Peihao, the President of the Tsinghua Student Union and a student from the Department of Industrial Engineering, and Chen Kai, one of the new undergraduate students, spoke on behalf of all the undergraduates and the new freshmen respectively.
