Tsinghua University Commencement Ceremonies
The Tsinghua University Commencement ceremonies 2016 for graduates and undergraduates were held separately in the Comprehensive Gymnasium on the mornings of July 2nd and 3rd. Of the graduates, 1420 received doctorates and 4697 received master’s degrees. More than 3,500 undergraduates completed their studies at Tsinghua University and received academic degrees. President of Tsinghua and Chairman of the Degree Conferral Committee Qiu Yong, Tsinghua University Council Chairman Chen Xu, and other university leaders awarded degrees and certificates to the new graduates.
In his address at the Commencement ceremony for graduate students, President Qiu Yong extended his congratulations to the students. “Graduation is a moment to say farewell, but it also symbolizes a new starting point in life. I believe that years of academic training must have prepared you well to embrace our age of creation, and to seize the boundless opportunities it offers. Your future is filled with possibilities. The most glorious victory must belong to the great innovators who have stepped forward to lead the development of these times,” said President Qiu.
In his presidential remarks on Sunday, President Qiu encouraged the undergraduates to keep their original aspirations, always making efforts to challenge their limits and surpass themselves, and to learn to be grateful. “With a grateful heart, you will be able to find, appreciate and create beauty even in tough times, and sense the real wonders of life,” said President Qiu. “Tsinghua will always be your home.”
