Dr. Chen Xu Appointed Party Secretary of Tsinghua

Dr. Chen Xu was appointed as Party Secretary of Tsinghua University by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. Dr. Hu Heping no longer serves as Party Secretary of Tsinghua. The announcement of the new Party Secretary was made on December 30 at a meeting of senior Tsinghua administrators.

Mr. Pan Ligang, Organizing Department Vice Director of the Central Committee of CPC, Mr. Yuan Guiren, Minister of Education, and Mr. Gou Zhongwen, Standing Committee of CPC Beijing Municipal Committee Member and Education Committee of CPC Beijing Municipal Committee Secretary attended the meeting, hosted by Tsinghua University President Chen Jining.

Born in 1963, Dr. Chen Xu is a professor of electronic engineering. She was admitted as a student in Tsinghua’s Department of Radio Electronics in 1981, received her bachelor’s degree in 1986, and then joined the Tsinghua University faculty the same year. She obtained her Doctorate (Ph.D) from Tsinghua in 2005, and served as a visiting scholar in the Department of Physics, Laval University, Quebec, Canada from 1996 to 1997. She has been a professor in the Department of Electronic Engineering, Tsinghua University, since 2005. Dr. Chen was appointed as Vice Party Secretary of Tsinghua University in 2006 and became Vice President of Tsinghua in 2007. She has been Deputy Party Secretary of Tsinghua since December of 2009.

Dr. Chen is currently Secretary General of the Chinese Vacuum Society and Vice President of the Federation of University Sports of China. Her field of research include ultra-high vacuum technique, mass spectrum analysis, and leak detection technology. She has won several scientific prizes for her distinguished work.
