Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli Visited Tsinghua’s Research and Development of Recombinant Protein Drugs and Tumor Diagnostic Reagents

Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli visited the Exhibition Center of Zhongguancun Science Park, located in Beijing, on March 28th. During his visit, Zhang paid strong interest to the research and development on recombinant protein drugs and tumor diagnostic reagents of the National Engineering Laboratory for Anti-tumor Protein Therapeutics, co-constructed by Tsinghua University and Protgen Ltd.

The Vice Premier was given an introduction to the lab’s latest achievement on translational medicine by Yongzhang Luo, Director of the lab and professor at Tsinghua’s School of Life Sciences. Mr. Zhang remarked that the industrialization of research achievements related to the national economy and to the people's livelihood, their health, and to critical diseases, should be facilitated to benefit the people as soon as possible.

The Vice Premier indicated that, the strategy of driving development through innovation is a key decision made, by the central government, at a critical stage for reforms and growth. He also indicated that, the strategy is expected to help optimize the country’s industrial structure, save energy, protect the environment, safeguard ecological systems and protect the people's health,. "To better implement the strategy, we must let enterprises play their principal parts fully. Remarkable efforts must be made to boost innovative capacities, cultivate strategic emerging industries and boost technology-oriented companies," he said. He also remarked, "We must carefully study rules on fair competition and upgrade fiscal, taxation and financial policies to encourage entrepreneurs to innovate. We must inspire various entrepreneurs and talents to innovate and put entrepreneurs' enthusiasm and initiative into full play".
