Tsinghua Wins Numerous State Science and Technology Awards Including Two First Prizes
Seventeen Tsinghua research achievements were recently recognized at the 2012 State Science and Technology Awards. Tsinghua professors accepted the awards on January 18th, at the annual State Science and Technology Awards Ceremony held in the Great Hall of the People, in Beijing. State Technological Invention Award first prizes were awarded to both Professor Dai Qionghai and his colleagues for research on technology and apparatus for reconstruction and display of 3D video, and to Professor Nie Jianguo and his colleagues for research on new technologies and applications related to long-span steel-concrete composite structures in buildings.
Tsinghua ranked first at the awards for total number of achievements among Chinese universities. Of Tsinghua’s 17 awards, three were State Natural Science Awards, seven were State Technological Invention Awards, and seven were State Scientific and Technological Progress Awards. Eleven of the research achievements were completed with Tsinghua as the lead research institution in collaboration with others.
As of the end of 2012, Tsinghua has won a total of 456 State Science and Technology Awards, including 52 State Natural Science Awards, 131 State Technological Invention Awards, and 272 State Scientific and Technological Progress Awards. Tsinghua’s Professor Wu Liangyong, a member of both the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, was awarded the State Highest Scientific and Technological Award.
