School of Journalism and Communication Celebrates Tenth Anniversary

13th of May 2012 was a special day for Tsinghua University School of Journalism and Communication as the school welcomed its 10th Anniversary.
Mr. Wang Chen, Director of State Council Information Office, Mr. Liu Binjie, Minister of China's General Administration of Press and Publication and Dean of Tsinghua School of Journalism and Communications, Mr. Zhao Qizheng, Member of the Standing Committee of the National Committee and Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Political Consultative Conference, Mr. Du Yubo, Vice Minister of Education, and Tsinghua University Council Chairman Hu Heping attended the ceremony.
Some 50 domestic and international media personnel, representatives from the journalism, communication, print media and education field, respected journalists as well as members from mainstream media such as People Daily and Xinhua, gathered at Tsinghua to celebrate a decade long of achievements with the professors, staff members and students from the School of Journalism and Communication.
Established in April 2002, the School has, for the past ten years, followed the distinctive characteristics of “Quality oriented, Using the practices, Facing the mainstream, Training experts” as the school’s educational philosophy. Through such four characteristics and the vigorous pursuit in carrying forward with the schools’ education and training of media personnel, the school has made profound impact and influences on the international field of journalism and communication.
Tsinghua’s School of Journalism and Communication is young, standing and with its roots deeply rooted in the rich soils of Tsinghua University. Through adding in adaptability, flexibility, internationalisation and innovation, the school is not only training future media talents who will have a lasting impact in the field of Journalism and Communication but also incorporating and mixing Chinese characteristics with Western features in the new era of news information and communication.
The celebration for Tsinghua School of Journalism and Communication was held on Sunday in the morning starting from 9:20am. After a short clip detailing and charting the growth of the school, the official ceremony began with speeches made by political, educational and media leaders. This was followed by the 10-year report, speeches from the Deans of various Journalism and Communication Departments from leading Universities as well as a live-clip from a long working partner and supporter of Tsinghua School of Journalism and Communication: Professor from Colombia University.
Current students and alumni showed their appreciation for the effort of past and present teaching staff from the school through the gift ceremony. An education charity fund in Journalism and Communication was also established. Dean Liu ended the ceremony with his speech, which reflected his hope for the future of Tsinghua’s School of Journalism and Communication.
The past decade yielded tremendous achievement and there will no doubt be more accomplishments that will surpass this.
