Academician Wu Liangyong Won State Top Scientific and Technological Award
Architect Wu Liangyong and Physicist Xie Jialin were each awarded the State Top Scientific and Technological Award by President Hu Jintao at a ceremony held in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Tuesday.
Tsinghua Professor Wu Liangyong, members of both the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, was awarded the State Top Scientific and Technological Award on Tuesday.
The annual National Science-Technology Award Ceremony was held in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on February 14.
Chinese President Hu Jintao, Premier Wen Jiabao, Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee Member Li Changchun, and Vice Premier Li Keqiang attended the ceremony. State Council Member Liu Yandong announced the State Council's decisions on the 2011 State Science and Technology Awards.
Wu earned his reputation studying the history of human settlement in China and applying the lessons learned to problems with China's urbanization.

Nineteen Tsinghua research achievements were recognized at the 2011 State Science and Technology Awards.
Tsinghua’s research achievements rank first in total achievements among Chinese universities. Of Tsinghua’s 19 awards, five were State Natural Science Awards, four were State Technological Invention Awards, and ten were State Scientific and Technological Progress Awards. Altogether nine research achievements were completed by Tsinghua as the lead research institution in collaboration with others.
The research on Materials, Devices and Industrialization of Organic Light-Emitting Displays, primarily achieved by Professor Qiu Yong and his colleagues won the State Technological Invention Award first prize.
By the end of 2011, Tsinghua had won a total of 439 National Science and Technology Awards, including 49 National Natural Science Awards, 124 National Technological Invention Awards, and 265 National Scientific and Technological Progress Awards.
