October 1st is the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. Tsinghua faculty members and students are celebrating the National Day in various ways.

More than 5,000 are participating in the main National Day celebration in Beijing's Tian'anmen area, including the mass pageant, the choir in Tian'anmen Square, and the gala at Tian'anmen Square on the night of October 1st.

"I am very proud to have an opportunity to participate in the National Day parade. It is a precious experience to me," said a graduate student who took part in the mass pageant in observance of the National Day.

There is also a distinctly festive atmosphere on campus. Many students arose early on Thursday morning to prepare to watch the much-anticipated military and civilian parade on TV, some of them seeing a live broadcast of it in Tsinghua's Auditorium.
