August 28 was an unforgettable day for Tsinghua’s 3,358 freshmen started their new lives as university students.
The opening ceremony for new students was held on August 19. Tsinghua President Gu Binglin, University Council Chairman Chen Xi, as well as other university leaders attended the ceremony. In his address, President Gu congratulated the new students and encouraged them to learn from the Olympic spirit--“Higher, Faster, and Stronger”. He urged them to adapt themselves to their new lives as university students, aim high, participate in physical exercise to maintain good health, be creative, and be brave in facing new challenges.
The new freshmen are among the most excellent students from all over China. Except for Tibet, about seventy percent of the top ten students in science and nearly twenty percent of the top ten students in the arts and humanities from thirty provinces in China matriculated at Tsinghua this year.
