A celebration to commemorate Teacher's Day was held on September 10 in Tsinghua University’s Auditorium. More than 170 of the university’s advanced educational groups and faculty were honored.
Tsinghua’s Vice President Hu Heping hosted the celebration. President Gu Binglin, University Council Chairman Chen Xi, Vice President He Jiankun, Vice President Kang Kejun, Vice President Wang Jinsong, Senior Administrators Chen Xu, Han Jingyang, and Cheng Jianping also attended the celebration.
President Gu Binglin on behalf of the university congratulated the honorees. He delivered an address entitled “Cultivate Outstanding Innovative Talents and Work Hard to Build Tsinghua into a World-Class University.” In his address, President Gu introduced a brief history of Tsinghua University. Then he presented to the attendees his thoughts on Tsinghua’s educational philosophy and mission, its research-oriented teaching system, and the development and organization of its faculty. In the conclusion to his address, President Gu encouraged the teachers to continue to forge ahead in their teaching and research as an integral part of the plan to build Tsinghua into a world-class institution of higher learning.
Professor Chen Xi, the University Council Chairman, emphasized several points in his speech. As a teacher, he emphasized, one should love his/her work, care about his/her students, work hard to improve their teaching, develop innovative ideas, maintain high ideals, and contribute to the development of Tsinghua and the nation.
