The undergraduate commencement ceremony was held in the Tsinghua gymnasium on July 17, with diplomas awarded to 3,111 students. President of Tsinghua and Chairman of the Degree Conferral Committee Gu Binglin, as well as other university leaders, attended the ceremony and extended degrees and certificates to the new graduates.

In his address to the ceremony, President Gu extended congratulations to the students. He made three suggestions for them. He urged them to be patriotic and love their country. Then he encouraged them to pursue excellence and have a “down-to-earth attitude”. Finally, he advised them to love life and maintain a positive attitude.

Concluding his speech, President Gu said he hoped the students would always bear in mind Tsinghua’s mottos of “Self-discipline and Social Commitment” and strive for excellence in their future work and study.
