Prince Philippe of Belgium Visits Tsinghua

Prince Philippe of Belgium and his wife Princess Mathilde visited Tsinghua on June 18. During his visit, Prince Philippe delivered a speech at Tsinghua’s Main Building.

Tsinghua University Council Chairman Chen Xi had a talk with Prince Philippe prior to the speech. The two exchanged ideas on cooperation between Tsinghua and universities in Belgium.

  

In his speech titled “Innovation with a human face”, Prince Philippe talked about innovation, and in particular about the relation between innovation and the human being.

Tsinghua Vice President Xie Weihe hosted the speech, after which Prince Philippe answered several questions from students.

Prince Philippe later visited Tsinghua Science Park.

 

HRH Prince Philippe was born on 15 April 1960 in Brussels, Belgium, the first child of HM King Albert II and HM Queen Paola. He is first in the line of succession to the throne of Belgium and, as such, he bears the title of Duke of Brabant. On the 4th of December 1999, the Prince married Miss Mathilde d’Udekem d’Acoz.

Tsinghua University enjoys a long relationship with Belgium and its universities.  K.U.Leuven-Tsinghua Week, a major communication event between Tsinghua University and Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (K.U.Leuven), was held in April this year.
