President Gu Visits United States

 

 

Tsinghua President Gu Binglin paid a visit to the United States from May 11 to 21.

An important agenda in President Gu’s visit was to further strengthen the tie between Tsinghua and some prestigious US university. There are four universities that the president visited this time, including University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), University of Southern California (USC), UC Berkeley, and Stanford University. Prof. Albert Carnesale, Chancellor of UCLA, Prof. Steven B. Sample, President of USC, Prof. Robert Birgeneau, Chancellor of UC Berkeley, and Prof. John Hennessy, President of Stanford University, met and talked with President Gu respectively on bilateral cooperation and academic exchange.

During his visit, President Gu also attended the eighth meeting of the board of directors of Tsinghua Education Foundation, North America (TEFNA) and the 2005 annual meeting of TEFNA, held in Los Angeles, US on May 15. President Gu delivered a speech at the annual meeting, introducing the current development and future blueprint of Tsinghua University.

Besides these, President Gu also attended the activities of Tsinghua alumni in California to celebrate the 94th anniversary of Tsinghua, talked with representatives of the Committee of 100, and paid visits to Google Company and OmniVision Company.
