World-renowned Chinese art historian Wen C. Fong, a professor emeritus of Princeton University , was named a Chair Professor of Tsinghua on Oct. 25.
A ceremony in honor of the award was held in the main building of Tsinghua. Prof. C. N. Yang, the Nobel Prize Winner, introduced Prof. Wen C. Fong. Professor Chen Xi, President of Tsinghua University Council, awarded the letter of appointment to Prof. Wen C. Fong. Prof. Chen said that it was beneficial for Tsinghua and the Center for Advanced Studies to invite Prof. Wen C. Fong as Chair Professor of Tsinghua.
After the ceremony, Professor Wen Fong gave a lecture titled “Word and Image: East Meets West” and answered questions from the audience.
Wen Fong taught Chinese art history at Princeton from 1954 to 1999. He also served for nearly 30 years as a consultant to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, retiring in 2000 as its first and Consultative Chairman of the Department of Asian Art.
