A series of activities were held on Oct. 23 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Tsinghua Sports Team. About 800 alumni and former members of the Team from various fields across the country as well as 100 current Team members attended the celebration.
The ceremony began in the University Auditorium at 10:00 am. Vice-secretary of the University Yang Zhenbin gave a congratulatory speech. He recalled the splendid achievements the Team has made in the past 50 years and highly appraised the role the Team has played in the development of the University. Representatives of Team committee, coaches, former and current Team members also delivered speeches respectively. A couple of elder coaches were awarded the commemorative certificates during the ceremony.
Meanwhile, an opening ceremony for a new sculpture was held near the Gymnasium and was broadcasted in live to the Auditorium. The sculpture, whose theme is the sprit of struggle of human being, was designed by Li Xiangqun, a professor from School of Arts of the University.
Later on the same day, the Team members had a relay jogging on the West Playground. The University Flag was passed from the athletes of 1950s’ to those of 2000s’, symbolizing the pass of Tsinghua Spirit through generations.
