For all the 3260 freshmen of Tsinghua in 2004, August 18 is an unforgettable day — since then, they will start a new life at Tsinghua as a university student.
Getting bath ticket, dining card, the students go through the formalities needed for the register carefully. They are busy but excited.
Zheng Yongya, a girl from Guang Dong Province, will soon start her four-year life as a student of School of Architecture. She feels happy and proud for being a Tsinghua student. “The campus is very beautiful,” said Zheng, “I will study hard. Then I will develop myself. I desire to be involved in various university activities and student organizations.”
The registration was held in the gymnasium of Tsinghua. Tsinghua President Gu Binglin, Chen Xi, President of the University Council, He Jiankun, Vice President of Tsinghua University and other leaders of Tsinghua went to the gymnasium and dormitories and talked with the new students.
Altogether 3,260 new undergraduate students enrolled in Tsinghua University in 2004. They are all excellent students from various parts of the country. Except for Tibet, more than seventy percent of the top ten students in science from thirty provinces in China were matriculated by Tsinghua University this year.
